![]() ![]() Maligne Canyon is better photographed on overcast days - on sunny days, inside the canyon is all in shadow so it's hard to get a picture with both the canyon and the surroundings. Overcast days make for better photography in some situations. A common weather pattern here is a clear morning, clouding over during the day, showers in late aft or early evening, and then clearing through the evening and overnight. Usually when there is rain or showers in the forecast, we would not get situations like the former - the skies get mostly clouded over. Tomorrow is supposed to be the former - sunnier, and a bit warmer. Well, yesterday was the latter, but without any rain, and today started out even better than the former (all blue sky this a.m.) and has gotten quite cloudy in the afternoon, but there are still a few patches of blue sky showing. Friday's forecast is looking much better (sunny periods and 15C) but that's 2 days away, so we'll have to wait and see how accurate that is. There was a bit of blue sky peeking out at time yesterday, though none so far today, and it certainly does look like some showers are a definite possibility - but I always have rain gear in my pack when I hike anyway. ![]() It could be raining at my house, and not in the downtown area (1 km away), or it could be pouring at Maligne Lake, and dry in town. Environment Canada's forecast for today says: "Cloudy with 40 percent chance of showers." Note that "chance of showers" does not mean that it will rain everywhere in the area and all day. I think it's important to understand the terminology the weather people use in their forecasts. It is quite cool and grey (only about 12C at the moment - at noon) but it hasn't rained since the night before last. the weather is not great at the moment, but it is not that bad. Just a quick response, as I am heading out the door to go hiking.
